While Mother’s Day is traditionally known to be one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants, until recently, it was difficult to measure the impact of these occasions. I’m proud to say that Zata has changed that by through free restaurant benchmarking for restaurants.
We compared restaurant sales between Mother’s Day and the previous Sunday using data from all over Canada and the United States.
Here are the results:
Some surprising results showed that suburban locations showed more of an increase than urban or downtown locations.
Here is a possible explanation:
In places like Downtown Vancouver, Sunday morning breakfast is a meal that is often enjoyed at a restaurant. In the suburbs, it seems to be more of a special occasion to take the entire family out for breakfast. Restaurants that are already busy will show less of an increase on Mother’s Day.
